HSXY: Reclaiming Our Bodies, Fighting the Stigma of Hidradenitis Suppurativa

When you live with a chronic condition like hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), it doesn’t just affect your skin — it impacts your mental health, your relationships, and your sense of self-worth. For many of us, the flares, scars, and pain make us feel anything but desirable. HS can make you feel dirty, unwanted, even broken — like your body is betraying you. And worse, society doesn’t exactly rush to embrace us with compassion or representation.

That’s why I said yes to being part of the HSXY calendar project.

HSXY is about reclaiming our bodies and our stories. It’s a visual celebration of people living with HS, photographed in beautiful, bold, and sexy ways — challenging the narrative that chronic illness makes us less-than. This calendar shows the world that we are still worthy, still whole, still hot — even in our pain, even in our scars. Maybe especially because of them.

Participating in this project was more than just posing for a camera. It was an act of defiance and healing. Of saying: “I’m not hiding anymore.” Because showing up in our bodies, exactly as they are, is radical. It’s powerful. And it’s necessary.

The proceeds from the calendar support AHSID (Association of Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Inflammatory Disorders) — a nonprofit that uplifts the HS community through education, advocacy, and research.

If you’ve ever felt invisible because of your HS, or struggled to see yourself as beautiful, this project is for you. You are not alone. And you are not broken.
